About Sara

Sara Faith Jacobsen is originally from the San Francisco North Bay Area. She graduated from Mills College, an all women's liberal arts college in Oakland, CA in May 2007. Her feminist consciousness began at Mills and lead her to major in Women Studies. Sara's journey towards labor support started three years ago when a friend informed her that she was training to become a doula. At the time, Sara didn't know what a doula was. Sara started doing more research and started to feel like this was the path for her. Sara's interest in being in women centered spaces and helping women coupled with her interest in pregnancy, childbirth, women's advocacy and women's health made labor support seemed like a natural path for her to take.

Sara took the DONA 20 hour doula training workshop in April at San Francisco Kaiser Hospital. The doula trainer was Debbie Lavin. Since then she has been studying the required texts set by DONA to prepare for her clients births. She has three upcoming births in July and August. She is a member of the East Bay Doula Circle, Bay Area Birth Association, DONA and a volunteer doula with the Berkeley Primary Care Access Clinic Volunteer Doula Program at Alta Bates. Sara is currently undergoing additional birth doula training with Birth Professionals of the Bay Area as well as studying Hypnobirthing under Deanna Jesus.
